Clinton was going for his morning run in made-in-Korea Asics running shoes.
During the heat of the ’92 presidential campaign, when Bill Clinton and Al Gore were jogging their way into the hearts of baby-boomers everywhere, it was duly noted that – ohmygod – Clinton was going for his morning run in made-in-Korea Asics running shoes.
In the list of sins committed by politicians, it wasn’t quite as bad as driving around in a Mercedes-Benz (which only Patrick Buchanan has ever had the chutzpah to do), but it wasn’t easily explained away either – especially when runningmate Gore was trotting alongside in his made-in-the-USA New Balance shoes.
