Internet Marketing vs. Advertising
What’s the difference between Internet marketing and Internet advertising? I always thought they were pretty much the same thing… I was wrong.
It turns out that online advertising is just a small piece of online marketing. Marketing also includes things like market research, sales strategy and customer support.
Marketing includes whether you use a funnel strategy to, well, funnel prospects and customers into a central site or getting them to purchase upsells. There’s also what’s called a hub-and-spoke marketing method.
Once you have your marketing laid out from start to finish, then you work on your advertising strategy. Search engine optimization or Pay Per Click (PPC) or other online ads?
If you don’t want to pay for online ads you can use your mail list (newsletter or email marketing), social networking, getting your name out in forums or blog comments, etc.
If you are going to pay for your online advertising do you use search engine ads like Google Adwords or place banner ads on sites or ads in complementary newsletters?
For the answers to these questions and more try going to Home Office Small Business. They’ve got a blog, but the real value appears to be in their Membership Area.
