Are there any cures for hot flashes?
Hot flashes is a condition which is usually linked to menopause, as women usually experience these symptoms when they hit mid-life. The common symptoms are acute sweating, flushing, and some even get a feeling of being tired. The root of the cause is hormonal imbalances, and as mentioned, menopause is the usual trigger. For most women there is no clear pattern to their hot flashes, as they can occur several times per day, or just a couple of times per week.
Hot flashes has some pretty obvious symptoms that can range from the mentioned sweating and flushing, to rapid heart rate, weakness, faintness, head pressure, and dizziness. The symptoms can last from a couple of minutes to as much as a half hour. If the condition isn’t severe and you can handle the symptoms, no treatment is necessary. But if they are decreasing your quality of life you might want to consult with your doctor for cures for hot flashes.
The medicine your doctor might subscribe are actually not a treatment for the hot flashes itself, but for menopause. A common treatment is HRT, or hormone replacement therapy, which usually consists of estrogen or progesterone. One or both of these therapies might be prescribed, depending on your symptoms and your specific medical history. There is however a risk of breast cancer from these therapies, which is why many women opt not to go on HRT.
There are some alternative cures that might be worth trying, though none of them have been scientifically proved to work. Red clover, soy, and black cohosh are claimed by some people to treat hot flashes. These substances are used in Europe and Asia, and especially in the latter continent, there are less reports of hot flashes compared to in the US.
Home cures and remedies consist of keeping yourself cool, and trying to stay away from spicy food and coffee (caffeine in general). Smokers also have a higher occurrence of hot flashes, so there is no better time to quit smoking then now!
