Homemade Tiki Torches

Published by at 5:23 am under Articles

Tiki torches make terrific garden accessories and are perfect for small outdoor parties and even for a special evening outside. These torches are like old fashioned lamps as they come with a wick that is usually soaked in a holder containing fuel and have a stand that is long enough to be pushed into the ground. However, some care needs to be taken when using these torches in the presence of small children and pets. It is a good idea to have a bucket of water or a fire extinguisher handy in these cases.

If you are looking for an inexpensive way to spice up your backyard into a setting right out of the tropics, homemade tiki torches are the best way to go. Or if your tastes tend to be more on the expensive side, more intricate and elaborate designs are available on the net that you can copy that may be right up your alley. Be it cheap or expensive, the effect the light from these torches create on a normal evening is enchanting. All you need to complete the experience is good food and drink and the evening will be magically transformed into a night in a tropical paradise.

Homemade tiki torches have become increasingly popular especially in children’s and fun summer outdoor parties. The most popular homemade torches seem to be the ones made out of old wine or liquor bottles. All you need is an old wine bottle, a wick, and fuel oil and you have got yourself a homemade tiki torch. Others are ones that are made out of bamboo that are a little more complicated to make. Flameless ones that are made using colored paper are the favorites among parents with young children and pets as they are less accident prone than the real thing, while still being a hit with the children.

Tiki torches are of a timeless quality as they create a warm experience with their pleasant and lovely glow. Although there is nothing to beat the pleasure and pride in creating your very own tiki torch, just be careful while making your own as they may not be as safe as store bought products. One easy way to make sure of this is to use paraffin based fuel even if it is more expensive for the lamp as it is not as easily combustible and even if a lit lamp falls down the chances of the fire spreading are remote.
