Pictures of Ghosts Make Even the Most Skeptical Among us Believers

I have always been rather doubtful when it comes to the existence of ghosts. I usually feel that things some people describe as “paranormal” can be explained by a number of other factors that make sense, but I have to admit that seeing pictures of ghosts – on more than one occasion, no less – has made me a believer.

It all started with a trip to Louisiana and the infamous Myrtles Plantation. The story goes that the plantation, which has been converted into a bed and breakfast, is haunted, and many visitors have reported hearing and seeing ghosts in the middle of the night.

One woman reported being held down while she tried to get out of her bed and seeing ghostly figures moving around the upstairs portion of the house.

At their gift shop, I bought a couple of souvenirs, but one of the things that struck me were pictures of ghosts that reportedly haunt the plantation. There was a stack of them on the counter, and they were less than a dollar, so I decided to buy one.

One of the ghosts that supposedly haunts the plantation was a slave girl named Chloe. Well, standing right next to the house in the black and white photo, is the figure of woman in what appears to be 19th century dress. My jaw dropped when I saw the picture, because it was clear that the photo had not been doctored.

On another occasion, when I was in college I heard about how one of the residence halls had burned down just a few years before I got there, and how one of the older security guards took a picture of it while it was burning. The rumor was that in one of the upper story windows was the ghostly apparition of a woman who was believed to have died in the hall during a tuberculosis outbreak back in the early 1900s.

He showed me the picture, and I could see her clear as day, looking down toward the ground from one of the higher windows.

Pictures of ghosts are difficult for me, because being someone that is skeptical, I still try to find a way to explain them away. I’ll ask if maybe it’s just a trick of the light, or maybe there was something on the lens of the camera.

With the two pictures of ghosts I saw, however, there was no mistake about it in my mind. They were both pictures of ghosts, and I believe they are actual ghosts and that both places are legitimately haunted.
