Apartments For Seniors With Low Incomes
Many times seniors need help financially especially when trying to find housing that they can afford. If you are a senior needing help or know of one you might want to look at the many apartments for seniors with low incomes available today.
These low income senior apartments are specifically designed for the elderly living on low fixed incomes such as Social Security and are commonly called Section 202 housing. Section 202 refers to the government regulations regarding senior housing assistance and if you qualify you may be able to live in one of these apartments.
There are really only 2 rules to qualify for federal assistance. One, you or your spouse must be at least 62 years old and two, your adjusted gross income must fall within federally established guidelines. The adjusted gross income is calculated by deducting any federally approved medical expenses from the senior’s income and that amount must be lower than the median wage for the state and county that the senior lives in.
By lower, I mean that they must fall under 50% of the median wage as far as income goes and in some cases they must be in the lower 30%. Make no mistake about it, low income senior housing is truly for the elderly that are living near the poverty level.
Despite the thoughts of squalor and urban decay modern low income senior apartments can be quite nice. Yes, they may be fairly bland from a design perspective but you will find that they are usually in very good shape and located in safe neighborhoods.
Anyone looking for more senior citizen government subsidized housing information would do well by visiting the HUD site which has many resources for those in need.
