Can one divorce lawyer represent husband and wife?
In our series about divorce law and divorce lawyers we meet regularly with divorce attorneys from around the country. Each area of the country has its own unique concerns. However, there are concerns that every region of the country has in common.
We recently met with a well know Long Island divorce lawyer in New York State. Perhaps it might be a function of the economy, but many young couples without children are seeking divorce. Since the cause of the dissolution is in large part due to financial problems, the issue of the fees paid to a divorce lawyer, weigh considerably in their decision to proceed. One of the few things that this couple appears to agree on is the use of a single divorce lawyer to end the marriage.
One attorney representing opposing parties in a legal action is never a wise decision. In addition, most divorce lawyers, including our Long Island divorce lawyer would not consider such an arrangement. It simply is not possible for one divorce lawyer to represent the best interest of both parties. Regardless of the financial strain, each party of the divorce must have their own attorney.
