Energy Efficient Electric Heaters
Many electric heaters these days claim to be energy efficient simply because they offer an alternative heat source rather than having to turn the heat up in a whole building or house. An energy efficient electric space heater can certainly save you money in that respect since you can keep the areas comfortably warm where you spend the most of your time and let the rest of the building stay a bit cooler. So, the energy efficiency is not solely dependent on the space heater: it is a combination of what is spent to power the portable electric heater and what is saved off your regular heating costs.
Many consumers are not familiar with electrical terms such as “wattage” that a particular unit uses for power and trying to decipher the terms or to calculate the actual amount of electricity saved by using an “energy efficient electric heater” for supplemental heat, is a task that many individuals don’t want to undertake.
However, it should suffice to say that if you can use an electric space heater for a certain part of the day and keep the thermostat in your home (or other building) turned down during that period of time, you are practicing energy efficiency yourself. Even if your home uses oil heat and you strategically use an electric space heater during part of the day so you can keep the thermostat down on the home, you are practicing energy efficiency since you aren’t wasting energy by heating the whole home just so one room is warm…
