Kidney Diet and Your Protein Intake
Reducing protein intake is recommended in any kidney diet so that the excretion of calcium and uric acid can also be decreased. But exactly how much protein do you really need to eliminate from your diet? According to medical studies, approximately 6 ounces of protein is that most that you can have if you are on a kidney diet. Generally, this means skipping meat altogether and just relying on the protein that you get from beans, legumes, peas and vegetables, which should be more than enough to supply your energy needs. If you absolutely can’t do without meat, you can at least try not to eat them everyday and just take limited portions with your meals.
