Loop Control: Non-Contact Applications
There are various applications in which a company might want to handle or transport a material web with little or no contact. Though the web must still go through the usual process where zone tension control is needed, non-contact sensing makes this process much easier. A facility might use ultrasonic loop control, which uses target density, target distance or size, shape and orientation. Another type of non-contact loop control makes use of optical or proximity detection. With this type of loop control, sensors detect the presence or absence of material in the application. Either photo-electric or capacitive proximity sensors are used, depending on the type of web material. A number of non-contact loop control products are available from a manufacturer called Carotron, Inc.
