Motor Torque Constant Solutions for Slippage
In the industrial realm, tension controls or center winders are used to help prevent slippage when winding materials that are slippery. They are also needed for in-line slitting and turret winders that require high web tensions. Motor torque constant tension keeps the torque constant throughout the winding process. The in-wound tension, however, will decrease torque proportional to the radius of the roll. With constant tension winding, the torque will be increased in proportion to the roll radius. Mostly, rolls will be wound somewhere in between the motor torque constant and the tension constant to achieve proper hardness taper for the roll. A possible solution to slippage is the MicroManager 3000 series model CTCW (constant tension center winder) by Carotron, Inc. Common applications include motor torque constant, tension control, load cell tension, brake control and more.
