Plan Family Trips with Fun and Flying in Mind
Flying radio controlled airplanes, or aeromodeling, can be a family activity where families practice together all year long and plan annual trips or vacations to show off their skills or just engage with other families involved in similar pasttimes.
Each week or weekend finds many families packing up the tent, the camper or renting an RV to attend RC events throughout the country where friends, strangers and like-minded individuals gather for hours, if not days, of fun and recreation flying remote controlled airplanes.
Each spring, thousands come to the Joe Nall RC event in Woodruff, South Carolina. Others head to Perry, Georgia; Lakeland, Florida; or locations throughout the country to see how far people they know and have kept in touch with have improved in the sport of flying.
They start small, buy or build their own planes, scale up or scale down, specialize and just have fun being together sharing what they call “fun, fellowship and flying.”
Whether a family prefers to just camp and watch, check into a local hotel and go shopping while Dad and the boys go flying, practice flying biplanes, war birds, or doing 3D aerobatic flying — the RC aircraft hobby has something for everyone.
Most of all, it is fun and provides an opportunity to learn and grow over the course of a lifetime.
