Regen Drives for DC Motor Control
Regenerative (regen) dc drives, or adjustable speed drives, provide four-quadrant (full-wave) speed and torque control. The term “regenerative” means the motor control drive is capable of controlling the direction of the motor torque. These are not limited to only controlling the speed and direction of the motor’s rotation, as with nonregenerative drives. Regenerative drives work by converting the mechanical energy (under braking conditions) as well as the connected load, into electrical energy. The energy produced is then returned to the power source.
High quality regen drives, such as the Blazer IV Series by Carotron, Inc., also feature complete isolation from the power circuit. This protects the reference and feedback circuits from potential damage that often occurs due to accidental shorts to ground. Learn about this feature and other great benefits by contacting a Carotron, Inc. distributor in your territory or by visiting the manufacturer’s website. Brochures, manuals and more are available for a variety of motor control products, including conventional nonregenerative drives and regen drives.
