Serious Diabetic Complications
There are many types of complications that can occur with diabetes. However, many complications of diabetes can be avoided by diligently following an individualized treatment plan. Make no mistake about it: diabetes is a disease that can lead to serious complications if not treated appropriately.
Diabetics are more likely to have heart disease and strokes. The consequences of either can be debilitating or deadly. Kidney failure, blindness and diabetic neuropathy are also serious complications that can occur if a diabetic doesn’t follow a good treatment plan or keep their blood sugar levels in check.
Studies have shown that diabetics that have had diabetes for years and diabetics that have not managed their blood sugar levels well are among the highest at risk for complications. Unfortunately, the millions of people that aren’t even aware that they have Type 2 diabetes are also in the highest risk group for diabetic complications.
