Yellow Diamond Concerns
As part of our retirement portfolio we decided to add diamonds to our other commodities, what with the uncertain nature and behaviour of the more traditional means of investment such as stocks, and the current high price of Gold. As yellow has always been my favorite color we decided that we would buy a few nice examples of yellow diamonds but were concerned about ethical trading in the diamond industry. Luckily for those of us in the U.S it seems that Congress were one step ahead back in 2003, by adopting the Kimberley process, an International agreement by which all diamonds traded are tracked from source to final destination to ensure they don’t originate in war zones or other places where dubious groups could be in control of the supply. Luckily ‘blood diamonds’ should soon be a thing of the past.
