Yes, Sometimes Diabetes is Brittle
Brittle Diabetes is the formal term for describing extreme variations and blood glucose levels. Sometimes this condition is referred to as Labile Diabetes.
Many underlying issues can cause Brittle Diabetes. For instance it can be caused because of delayed stomach emptying called, gastro paresis. Other times, Brittle Diabetes is caused by hypothyroidism. Still other times, it is due to other medical conditions the individual has.
Ordinarily, Brittle Diabetes occurs in Type 1 diabetics, but there have been cases of it occurring in Type 2 diabetics. Additional statistics show that Brittle Diabetes occurs more frequently in women and individuals between the ages of 15 and 30.
Diabetics who experience Brittle Diabetes have a very difficult time control their blood glucose levels. It’s come for diabetics to experience some highs and lows in their sugar levels due to things like exercise, response to meals etc… The difference with people with Brittle Diabetes is that they experience drastic and frequent changes to their sugar levels that often require medical intervention.
