Qualifications Required To Become A CNA

Published by under Nursing

Before you can work as a CNA you are going to need to undertake some CNA training and to do that you are going to firstly need a few qualifications in order to get onto the CNA training program.

About CNA Training

CNA training will often involve completing around 75 – 100 hours of practical and theory based training, overall that will require you to learn a knew set of skills as well as developing your health care knowledge based around what you’re taught.

Once you have completed the required number of hours needed then you can undertake the competency based test which will allow you to qualify as a fully recognised CNA. Once you’ve obtained the qualification of CNA then you will be able to get a job anywhere within your state as a fully fledged CNA.

Qualifying For CNA Training

In order to get into one of the many CNA classes offered online and through various health care organisations, such as red cross, you are going to need to have two things:

    1. The personal qualities required to be a good CNA
    2. The personal qualifications required to get on the course

The personal qualities required to be a good CNA are something which can’t reall be taught, you will either have them or you won’t. These skills and qualities often include personal traits such as a caring nature, compassion, empathy and the ability to look after someone with care and attention.

The personal qualifications are simple but essential, you must have a General Educational Certificate or ideally you should have completed and graduated with a high school diploma.

Provided you have both of the above then you are highly likely to be able to get into a CNA training class, but you’ll still need to find funding.

Funding For CNA Training

CNA training is going to set you back several thousand dollars if you pay for it yourself, that’s the unfortunate truth about CNA training. However, there are many organisations who will pay for your training for you providing that you spend a certain period of work with them. Nursing Specialties

If you think that you would like to have a career in nursing, you have chosen something that will not only help people, but that will also put you in a career that can help your quality of life. Many nurses make great money if they are in the right job, and the world is always going to need nurses. Not everyone can be a nurse, but if you have the need to help others and you think you can do a good job, this is the career for you. Nurses are a special breed indeed and make a difference in lives each and every day. If nursing is not for you, that is okay, but if you want to do it, look into nursing specialties to find where you think you can do the most good.

Many think of nursing specialties as those that work in the ER and those that work in doctors offices. Those are great jobs and they can be what you seek. If you do well under pressure and you love a challenge, saving lives in the ER can be a stimulating and rewarding career. Some choose nursing specialties in line with what happens in a doctor’s office because they do not like the ER, and that is just fine. Those in offices help patents each and every day but enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere in most cases.

Those are not the only areas where you can work in nursing specialties. Hospitals are in need of LPN and RN degrees to work in the patients areas of the hospital. These nursing specialties are all hours of the day and all days of the week. Some nurses have to work weekends and some insist on night shift. Some want to work with cancer patients and some want to work with the youngest patients because they love children and want to keep them from being scared while in a hospital and away from home.

One of the hardest and most rewarding nursing specialties would be the NICU nurse. These nurses have extra training so that they can care for premature babies. These children can be less than an ounce when they are born or may be born close to full term but have health problems. Many that choose this of the many nursing specialties say in the NICU for most of their career. They love the environment and they love the babies. They cannot imagine doing anything else. This type of nursing is hard, but it is also one of the most rewarding if you love children.

Whatever nursing specialties you want to try, remember that you can try more than one if the first you choose is not what you thought it might be. Get advice about choosing the right schools for your nursing profession. Some require extra training and in some cases, your employer may pay to have you go through that training in exchange for staying with them for a certain amount of time. There are also traveling nurse opportunities if you want to see more of the world. Those with one or more nursing specialties have great chances of securing this type of work in nursing.
