There Are Many Risks In Using The New Technologies Available

Published by tokyosoon under Articles

Communicating with a friend or a loved one has never been easier. The creation of World Wide Web has dramatically changed how we communicate with each other. In the past it would take up to a month for a person to receive a letter. Currently, sending and receiving emails is done in a blink of an eye. You can have a pen pal in South-Africa and not spend a dime on a postage stamp in order to inquire about today’s weather in that part of the world.

Telephones are no different

More than a century passed since Mr. Graham made the first phone apparatus. This new machine was owned exclusively by the elite. It allowed for an unprecedented speed of communication and became an instant hit amongst the chosen few. Many believed that this was the final frontier of communication. However, the inception of cell phones surpassed all expectations. The first cell phones also belonged to the elite circles and many of them were permanently nested inside of cars, but things changed rapidly. In contrast to their ancestors our mobile phones are weightless and cost nothing.

They’ve become so accessible that it’s normal for a child or a senior to have one. Things like reverse phone look ups and ring tones are the talk of the town. Popularity has also reached the developing states which might not even create a land line network at all, but rather a cellular one. The creation of a mobile telephone network (using a series of towers) is actually less expensive.

What people should know

Cell phones are great. But public needs to pay close attention to how they evolve. Reverse phone tracing comes to mind. If you were to look up a land line you would only get the postal address of the individual to whom the phone number belongs. In contrast, the http://ip-looker-upper.com/237/index.html might provide you with the exact location of the individual (if he or she has GPS installed on the phone). I think it’s a border line violation of privacy. Conversely an ability like that can be used for tracking lost children. Reverse mobile tracing is just one of the issues. Scientists are still debating if prolonged exposure to cell phone waves is linked to cases of brain tumors.

What’s the Key?

I believe that the government needs to jump on the cell phone wagon and pay a closer attention to what is happening in the cell phone industry. In all probability this is the only sure way to defend a buyer in the current market.

The African Diaspora Foundation: Who is Included?

In brief, the African Diaspora includes people of African ancestry wherever in the world they may live. The diaspora was the movement of Africans throughout the world, particularly to North and South America during the Atlantic slave trade of the 18th and 19th centuries. Later, Africans migrated to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. There are at least 140 million people of Sub-Saharan ancestry in the Western Hemisphere alone. Worldwide, they compose about 14% of the earth’s population. Find out more about people of African ancestry by visiting the social networking site Africa Meet.

TurboCAD growth from zero to hero

Ever since the early days of computers, CAD programs proved to benefit drafting professionals tremendously. In the early days these applications ran on main frame and mini computers and were very expensive. AutoCAD opened a niche by being one of the very first CAD applications to run on a PC. It was low cost, comparatively speaking, providing a feature set that was on par or better than the traditional CAD applications of the day. Today we sit with a similar case. Over the years the price of AutoCAD crept up and up with relatively little incremental benefits in their annual upgrade cycle. TurboCAD, like AutoCAD in the twilight days of the CAD applications for mini-computers, provide a feature set that is not only on par with that of AutoCAD, but also provides a wealth of productivity enhancement features, making an ROI argument that cannot be ignored. TurboCAD which was created in South Africa and the richness of its feature set along with the value proposition made it what it is today – the leader in retail CAD in the US.

African-born people in Australia

According to census data of the Australian Bureau of Statistics there were 248,699 people born in Africa who were resident in Australia in 2006 . This accounted for 5.6% of the overseas-born population. Almost three quarters (72.6%) of the Africa-born resident population were from Southern and East Africa, 22.9% from North Africa and 4.5% from the Central and West Africa region. The largest group were born in South Africa (104,133 or 41.9% of the total Africa-born population living in Australia), 13.5% were born in Egypt, 8.1% in Zimbabwe, 7.7% in Sudan, 7.3% in Mauritius, 4.0% in Kenya and 2.3% in Ethiopia. Africa-born people also came from 51 other countries, each contributing less than 5,000 persons (or less than 2.0% of the total). More on the African Diaspora on the Africa Meet site.

The African Diaspora in Nieu Zealand

Eighty-two percent of Africans who immigrated to Nieu Zealand until 2003 were from South Africa. The other eighteen percent came from Somalia, Egypt, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia. In the case of migration from Africa it seems as if the push factor is stronger than the pull factor. African people migrate because of demographic, economic and political reasons as well as environmental disasters and conflict. The highly skilled migrants from Africa benefits the industrial (host) world tremendously but also means that there is a depletion of skills overall in Africa.

Top Five Countries of Origin of the Foreign-Born Population Living in Nieu Zealand in 2001:
United Kingdom: 218,394 – 31.3% of total foreign-born population
Australia: 56,142 – 8.0% of total foreign-born population
Samoa: 47,118 – 6.7% of total foreign-born population
China: 38,949 – 5.6% of total foreign-born population
South Africa: 26,061 – 3.7% of total foreign-born population
All other countries: 311,883 – 44.6% of total foreign-born population

South Africa, Agriculture, Agribusiness and Climate Change

South Africa faces many major challenges, one of which is to face up to the reality of climate change. As countries are seeking to meet in Copenhagen and negotiate binding climate change targets, the contribution that agricultural production makes to anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions is increasingly coming under scrutiny. There is therefore a clear need to find cost-effective ways to address agricultural emissions. This needs to be done in a way that does not compromise other objectives, such as food security, competitiveness and poverty alleviation. At the same time, climate change will have significant impacts on agriculture and agribusiness, calling for an effective adaptation strategy in addition to mitigation policies. The negative effects of global warming, such as heat waves, storms, floods, changes to rainfall pattern, water availability in water-stressed areas and soil degradation, have potentially major implications for life essentials like food, water, land and the environment.

Agribusiness is committed to playing its role in addressing these major challenges, and many companies in South Africa and worldwide have already taken considerable action. In the ABC’s view, the respective and relevant Portfolio Committees can and should play an important role in developing understanding of the complexity and scope of the challenge, fostering dialogue, ensuring thorough analysis on climate change mitigation and adaptation options and formulating fact-based policy recommendations.
This is an excerpt from the Agricultural Business Chamber presentation to the portfolio committee in Parliament on the agribusinesses’ position on climate change. The presentation is available for download on the ABC website

Lions Rugby- Can Irish Lions Inspire Victory Over South Africa In Grand Slam Year

Published by rugby guru under Articles

Can the Irish Lions Inspire Victory Over South Africa In what has been a victorious spring for Irish teams that seemingly were never able to win the ultimate prizes

After a decade of near misses, the national side finally won the Six Nations and won it with flair, sweeping all of its opponents for a Grand Slam, the first since 1948.
On Saturday, Leinster, the Dublin team, at last won the European Cup, beating Leicester, 19-16, in a tense final in Edinburgh.

Other Irish teams had won the competition before: Ulster in 1999, Munster in 2006 and 2008. But Leinster had been a serial semi final misfit until they hammered Munster, the reigning champions this year.

Leicester, in contrast, were appearing in their 5th European Cup final — although only two had ended in triumph.

The only two players in the Leinster team with any experience of a European final had earned it in Leicester shirts. In the 2007 final, Shane Jennings started and Leo Cullen, now the Leinster captain, played 30 minutes as a replacement. But Leicester were beaten by London Wasps, and after the defeat the two men returned to their native soil.

The fact that Leicester were in Edinburgh at all after a generally mediocre season suggested to be proof that they knew how to win.

In the 2nd semi final, they beat Cardiff in a prolonged penalty shootout. The club had spent much of their English league season trailing the leaders, but ended it by defeating London Irish in the playoff final a week earlier. This was a team that operated well under pressure.

The early pressure on Saturday came from Leinster. Brian O’Driscoll, the Ireland captain, put Leinster ahead with a drop goal. Julien Dupuy leveled with a penalty for Leicester.

Johnny Sexton, a 23-year-old who had come on after 20 minutes in the semifinal after the veteran Argentine fly half Felipe Contepomi suffered a season-ending injury, increased the lead with a prodigious drop goal from halfway. He then added a penalty. The youngster seemed to be playing without fear.

But Leinster had to build their lead in three-point installments because they could not turn steady pressure into tries against a swarming Leicester defense. D’Arcy was stopped inches from the line after Sexton had made the initial cut.

The first time that Leicester attacked, Leinster creaked. After 33 minutes, with the line in danger, Stan Wright, a prop forward from the Cook Islands, tackled the Leicester fly half Sam Vesty off the ball. Wright was sent to the sin bin for 10 minutes.

While he was taking a breather, Leicester scored 13 points. Dupuy booted a penalty. Ben Woods powered through the weakened defense for a try. Dupuy kicked the conversion and added a penalty early in the second half.

At full strength, Leinster re-established their domination. Leinster have often been derided as too dainty, too reliant on their talented Ireland backs — O’Driscoll, D’Arcy, Luke Fitzgerald and Shane Horgan — and too soft in the forwards. On Saturday, Wright and the other prop, Cian Healey, and the Australian flanker Rocky Elsom hammered Leicester backwards.

Elsom was named man of the match. “I would say the best player I have ever played with, and I have played with many good players,” O’Driscoll gushed at the news conference.

Sexton missed a long-range penalty, but Leinster at last broke through with a try by star forward Jamie Heaslip who wrestled his way across the line. Sexton kicked the conversion to tie the scores.

The final was played the day before the British and Irish Lions flew to South Africa to begin their tour. O’Driscoll was captain on their last tour, to New Zealand in 2005, but was injured in the opening minutes of the first test. He will almost certainly start the Test Matches in South Africa.

But on the day when the Lions announced they were calling up James Hook to replace his fellow Welshman, Leigh Halfpenny, who was hurt in training last week, O’Driscoll gave the Lions’ management a brief scare.

Just after the hour, O’Driscoll got up from a collision clutching his shoulder. He went to play on the wing, his arm hanging at his side. Five minutes later, he suddenly jinked past three defenders on the left wing, forcing a penalty from the Leicester defense.

With the pressure on, Sexton took the kick. He did not strike it well, but the ball hooked just inside the far post and flopped over the bar. Leinster led. As he turned to run back, Sexton pulled a face that suggested both relief and disbelief.

Leinster could not completely pen Leicester back for the last 10 minutes, but they avoided making any mistakes in their own half. This time, Leicester could not find a way to win.

Experience and history are important, but sometimes winning is simply a question of playing better than your opponent.

At the end, a joyful O’Driscoll was interviewed on the field and happily milked the applause from Leinster’s adoring fans.

“I’ve played for this team for 10 years,” he said. “I’ve loved every minute playing for them. I love Leinster.”

O’Driscoll was captain of the Ireland team that broke through in the Six Nations this year. It has been a pretty good season for him.

“Just one competition to go; a little Lions Rugby Test series will cap it off nicely,” he said.

Roll On Saturday 20th May and the First Test against South Africa with several Irish heroes likely to be in the Test Team with Brian O’Driscoll and Lions captain Paul O’Connell.

Cellular Reverse Lookup and how it works

Published by tokyosoon under Articles

Written correspondence is a dying breed of communication. The creation of World Wide Web has dramatically changed how we communicate with each other. I remember how it used to take up to 3 weeks, for a friend in a different country, to receive my written letters. Currently, sending and receiving emails is done in a blink of an eye. You can have a pen pal in South-Africa and not spend a dime on a postage stamp in order to inquire about today’s weather in that part of the world.

Phone craze

Over a 100 years ago, Mr. Bell invented the very first telephone machine. In those days only the most exclusive circles could afford to have one. Edison/Berliner transmitter gave people the ability to communicate with their peers who were in different house holds. At the time it probably seemed like it wasn’t going to get more convenient than that. Alas! Mobile phones were born. The first cell phones also belonged to the elite circles and many of them were permanently nested inside of cars, but things changed rapidly. In contrast to their ancestors our mobile phones are weightless and cost nothing. It seems that today almost everyone has got to have one. Things like the cellular reverse lookup and ring tones are the talk of the town. It’s been said that many developing nations will skip over the landline era and jump right into the cell phone one. Cell phone towers are much cheaper in construction and maintenance which makes them an ideal alternative.

Public needs to be aware

It’s undeniable that cellular phones facilitate communication, but they did spawn some debatable issues. Reverse phone tracing comes to mind. If you were to look up a landline you would only get the postal address of the individual to whom the phone number belongs. However the cell phone tracing goes beyond that. You are now capable of finding out exactly where the person is located. I think it’s a border line violation of privacy. On the other hand it’s a handy tool for a responsible parent. Cell phone search is not the sole issue related to cell phones. Mutation of brain cells and it’s relation to cell phone use is still being examined by the medical community.

What’s the Key?

I believe that the government needs to jump on the cell phone wagon and pay a closer attention to what is happening in the cell phone industry. In all probability this is the only sure way to defend a buyer in the current market.

Soul food recipes is your authentic American cuisine

Published by Vinzo under Articles

Mention American cuisine, and you have a smorgasbord equivalent of the melting pot of the world. There are so many influences that have melded together over the years, that is now quite difficult to delineate what came from where. One good example is soul food recipes. Soul food has been an integral part of the food eaten in many states in Southern USA for so long but it was originally African cuisine, brought over to America by the African slaves who worked in the plantations.

Over the years, soul food kept up their sustenance and strength, and began to evolve, incorporating French, Creole, and Hispanic elements. Here it must be mentioned that “soul food” is also now broadly used to refer to the traditional cuisine eaten by the African diaspora all around the world.

One of the characteristic features of soul food recipes is the way it has been passed down in the past, that is via word of mouth. Since many of the slaves did not have education, these recipes had to be memorized by hard and passed down from generation to generation. Today however, soul food has taken on a more eclectic fusion of hybrid cooking ideas; and of course, you have cookbooks and websites that preserve many of those classic recipes that people used to love.

Soul food makes liberal use of meat, so if you are a hardcore meat eater, you’d love this Baked Turkey Wings recipe. Other common ingredients used are potatoes, beans, turnips, bread, and kale.

Global financial crisis and its likely impacts on the Agricultural Sector

By Lindie Botha and Herbital Maluleke of the Agricultural Business Chamber South Africa.

It is too difficult to have a comprehensive picture of the consequences of the crisis that is hitting the global economic system. However, what we know for sure is that the South African Agricultural sector had been affected (South Africa moved from being a net exporter of food to being a net importer of food) or is likely to be affected more, despite the fact that the financial crisis is the result of markets failures in the North. The issue of South Africa being a net exporter of food needs to be reviewed on
whether South Africa is a net importer of process food or unprocessed food. South Africa is a net importer of process food than unprocessed food due to high demand which might be caused of increase in population, neighbouring countries such as Zimbabwe buying food from South Africa etc.

Do I need a tour guide in South Africa?

Published by cdrotsky under Articles

For some there is nothing better than buying your ticket and leaving the rest to chance. The adventure of arriving in a foreign country without a plan, without reservations for accommodation or any idea how you will from A to B. Everything from beginning to end is an adventure. For these intrepid explorers, a tour guide will only cramp your independence. Other travellers may want a degree of freedom in choosing their itinerary but they also want to do activities such as abseiling or touring unfamiliar or remote areas. For these travellers a tour operator can assist in planning overnight tours or day tours. In a country like South Africa, with 11 official languages, it may sometime be useful to have a guide who can communicate on your behalf. The third type of traveller wants to leave no room for error. This type of traveller will want to make every moment of his trip count- this is particularly true for those who are in the country for a limited time or for those who are unable to make arrangements themselves or who have physical limitations. For this type of traveller a tour guide or tour operator is essential. They will take care of all the details from accommodation and pick up, drop off transport to visits to the best sites. Tour operators will often offer set tours as well as customised tours. Ulysses offers such a service from day or night tour to full overnight stays. Ulysses tour operators will coordinate every aspect of your tour or safari and give you the option to customise your tour.
So the South African answer to the question is “Ja- Nee” which means “Yes- No”.

Tips on tours and safaris to South Africa

Published by cdrotsky under Articles

Being at the right place at the right time will make all the difference to your experience when planning a tour or safari in sunny South Africa. So, even before you contact tour operators such as Ulysses to organise your tour; do some research on the seasons and corresponding temperatures. September, October, November are spring; December, January, February are summer; March, April, May are autumn; June, July, August are winter months. Another thing to consider is that the school year runs from January to December with a long break over Christmas. There are school holidays between March and April, June and July and a week between September and October. If you are planning to travel during these peak seasons, expect places to be crowded. You may want to consider travelling out of season when accommodation is a little cheaper and queues are a little shorter. It is also advisable to find out about any local festivals such as the National Arts festival in Grahamstown in June or the Ficksburg Cherry festival in the Free State in November. You won’t want to miss out on some spectacular events. For more information on safaris and tours to South Africa visit the Ulysses website.
