A ball rolling down a hill is the perfect example of the success curve for Internet marketing. At the beginning, the ball is stationary, and it needs a little nudge to get started. For the Internet marketer, that nudge could be registering a new domain name for a new niche market you want to explore. As the ball starts rolling, it picks up speed. This is you actually setting up the website and building some starting content. Later, the ball has picked up even more speed thanks to gravity. This is you setting up some advertising or affiliate offers and you start to make some money. This may seem like an old metaphor, but there is one facet that often goes overlooked: the slope.
Gravity will pull the ball down even if the slope has the smallest angle. Gravity is your desire to succeed in your business. Even if your “slope,” which could translate to a small task (like writing one article), is tiny, that ball is still rolling forward and gaining momentum. Maybe after writing that first article, you still have free time to do a second. The momentum increases even more. Don’t get stuck thinking about your workload (the hill) as a whole. Think of it as a bunch of little tasks that add up to huge momentum, which will lead you to success.

Best-selling author and personal success coach offers a pretty simple piece of advice: clean up your messes. Seems pretty obvious and unhelpful, right? Well the way he shows you to go about cleaning up is priceless: make it easy. How do you make Internet marketing easy? Break it into steps and get rid of binary concepts. An example of a binary concept is success/failure. If you don’t have complete success, then you must have failed. A lot of people use this strategy when setting business goals, but all it does is hinder you. Break your goals down into small little pieces and you’ll clean up messes much easier.
For example, let’s say that one of your websites is a mess of broken links, un-optimized content, and an unorganized navigation structure. Well, let’s break it into pieces so you can clean it up. First, a small easy piece is to optimize one article. It’ll take you only a few minutes to put a keyword in the title and edit a few paragraphs to naturally include that keyword. There, done. By not getting hung up on the idea of having a “perfect” website, with the binary opposite being “unperfect” and therefore bad, you are able to make real, tangible progress. And it only takes you five minutes or less at a time.

The old adage says, “There’s no time like the present,” and that goes double for Internet marketing. The Internet is worldwide and covers every time zone so there are always potential site visitors and customers looking around for content you can provide. There is no magic time when you succeed. Starting a project two months from now will just leave you two months behind everyone else.
And in times of economic distress or recessions, starting immediately is imperative. Why? Because there are lots of other people just like you who are thinking about getting into Internet marketing, or are already established and are thinking about getting into a new niche market that you have targeted for yourself. Internet marketing and all facets of e-commerce are growing industries. Every minute that goes by makes the field more crowded and the competition fiercer. If you want to get to the top (and why wouldn’t you?), delaying would be like tying a sandbag to your back while running a foot race. All it does is slow you down.
